NYT article on outsourcing by Suketu Mehta

Here's an NYT article by Suketu Mehta, author of 'Maximum city: Bombay lost and found' on outsourcing in today's issue. He brings a perspective to the American reader which is often lost in the politicized nature of the debate.

Here's the article

I will add my comment later, but I also recommend reading Discussion on Sepia Mutiny on the same article.

However, I disagree with the authors claim that by updating the education standards of US schools, the US can fight outsourcing. Suppose the US does update its education system.

By 'fighting outsourcing', I don't think the author means to bring the jobs 'back' to the US, but to keep the US workforce innovative enough to create new lines of work. That was the way the US survived in the past, by staying WAY ahead of everyone else in innovation. That gap seems to be closing, not in small part due to the education systems in the US and other countries. I think that's the point he is making.
